Postpartum Caregivers

Postpartum Caregivers

This type of care is agency based and is often a home health worker or companion that helps with house, sibling care and baby during the initial adjustment period. They are different from a postpartum doula in that they may also care for the elderly. They usually prefer full-time, long-term assignments but many will do shorter jobs if they're available.

SPOTLIGHT:
"After birth, in many of the more natural , non industrial parts of the world, most babies are held against their mothers all day long by cloth carriers of one kind or another. They continue to share in all their mothers’ movements as their mothers go about their regular jobs whatever they may be....We’ve put distance between mothers and babies."
- Dr Spock’s Baby and Child Care, Benjamin Spock MD and
Michael B Rothenberg MD
