BirthLink Celebrates 30 Years

September 14, 2026 By Jo Anne Lindberg

I have to say that the 30 years I have been assisting parents in planning their births has been more rewarding than I ever imagined it could be. I’ve work with many, many parents to help them understand their birth options on all levels. Not only midwives but also supporting practitioners. My book, Honoring Birth, has been one of my best accomplishments of my life’s work.

Now I am considering winding the business down. I will be 75 November 9th, 2026. It is time for me to plan for my end of life. I have amazing health due to self care and the support of Asian medicine and homeopathy. I want to focus on my diet, exercise, rest and relaxation along with the things that bring me joy.

I love kayaking the lakes in Wisconsin. Hiking, biking and camping have become my main ways of getting out in nature. I also garden many areas of the condo I live in. I enjoy reading and writing for my local newspaper the Verona Press. You can find my work under Opinion on their site. I also help elders in my community. I’m involved in staying in touch with my representatives on a variety of issues that are related to health.

Helping WELO – Wisconsin End of Life Options – pass a bill that allows medical aide in dying is another project I am working on. Many people have watched their loved ones suffering with no relief and want that to stop. There are many states that now have this in place. It is important to know how this works and not jump to inaccuate conclusions. Death with Dignity is a great resource for learning more.

I chose home birth so I could give birth naturally. I want to live and die at home. A home funeral is allowed and so is a natural burial. For many years I have dealt with chemical and electromagnetic sensitivities. I was born a very sensitive child. It took many years to discover what that was. It has been a huge advantage in my shiatsu practice. It has also helped me learn about the advantages of alternative medicine.

I appreciate all the members of BirthLink that have seen the value of normal birth and helped educate parents about mother baby lead birth. Thank you for caring about babies who deserve the best start in life. Thank you to parents who have taken the time and effort to bond and attach to your children. As well as protect their health as much as possible in spite of current medical trends.

I wish you all well, loved and happy!!!
