Water Birth & Tub Providers

Some hospitals offer hydrotherapy and/or water birth. Hydrotherapy is used only for comfort during labor and is not water birth. Water birth is when the baby is born into the water in the tub. Water can be very effective in reducing pain and helping progress labor. Some hospitals may let you rent your own tub and bring it with you. Some have their own tubs. Be sure to ask how many mothers have actually given birth in the tub so you can see what your chances of using it are.

You can rent one for a home birth. Home birth practices may rent tubs. Water birth is the most popular comfort measure for birth as it keeps mom relaxed so her hormones can do what they need to do.

If you can't find a practitioner near you please contact us.

"A tub of warm water is an ideal place for a laboring woman. It helps her to relax and tune into her instincts. It is very effective for pain control. The more relaxed a woman is during her labor, the more her hormones and endorphins can flow, allowing the birth to progress naturally. It is very difficult to be tense when you are floating in warm water!"
- The Midwifery Model, an interview with Betty Idarius
