Q: I am a new mom, I feel like I tried it all but I can’t seem to make my 4 week old bundle of joy stop fussing. Please help me with some ideas.
A: Hi new mommy!
It is not always easy to identify what is wrong with baby. Unfortunately when they are this young it is a slow process of elimination. You want to anticipate their needs. Many times it is hunger or tired motivated. Sometimes it’s the diaper change, they may be too hot or too cold. They may want affection, to be held or cuddled or rocked or they may want to just be laid back in their crib. Pay attention, maybe they are in pain or getting sick. Off course don’t rule out gas, boredom, habit or teething.
Here are a few tips for those moments where you think you have tried it all:
Sing a song or play a lullaby.
Try distracting your little one with a game of peek a boo
Remember, babies can sense when you’re frustrated. Sometimes giving him or her a few minutes in a crib and stepping away is the best thing to do. When your attitude changes so will your child’s.
Baby pro-biotics can help too! They support the gut bacteria so necessary for digestion.
